Peter Gladwin author of ‘Out of the Ashes’ will be preaching here at NLC on Sunday 10 June at 10am. He was seriously burned in a house fire at the age of one, always in trouble with the police, stabbed in a gang at the age of 15, and the victim of a hit and run at 24. Other obstacles included his personal addictions, his wife’s battle with cancer, and the suicide of his father. While contemplating suicide he heard a message that has totally turned his life around ………..

Come and hear Peter’s story …. bring your friends ……. Sunday 10 June at 10m at New Life Church, Old Woking.

First of all I would like to thank you for holding me up in your prayers especially during this last 3 months.

13 weeks have passed since my life turned into an unexpected sabbatical time. After excruciating pain in my left leg I was shocked to see the evidence of a prolapsed disc (2nd last one of my spine) on the MRI pictures. The neurosurgeon welcomed me for the first consultation by saying “ it’s a bad prolepse!”. I have seen him for the third time a few days ago (he did all consultations free of charge!) and he was very happy with my progress and confirmed my recovery so far as a miracle. He just shook his head when I told him that I didn’t need any painkillers for the last 10 weeks and I am now able to walk up to 2 miles every day. He is convinced that my disc will heal + all the symptoms will go without an operation! Hallelujah!!!! He encouraged me still to take things slowly, rest enough, not to sit for too long, not to carry anything and no travelling on dirt roads. We ended this consultation with praying for each other. It was a wonderful experience. He offered me to come back anytime if needed. I am trusting the Lord that next time I am going to walk into his office healed without any symptoms glorifying my God as the perfect healer!

All these weeks have been quite a journey. My life physically came to a standstill of resting mostly on my bed, doing exercises and water gymnastics to strengthen my muscles and seeing a physiotherapist once – twice a week. As you can image I rested not only physically but spiritually + emotionally as well. It has been a good and peaceful time. I have been very positive and focused in trusting the Lord for my healing. I am most grateful for all the care I received from my friends + my landlady.

I still got pins and needles in different parts of my left leg which change places and get more or less depending on how I move. According to the neurosurgeon this is normal at this stage. I also haven’t started to drive my own car yet. Regarding travelling /flying I was advised by the doctor not to do it at least before middle of May – middle of June all depending on my progress. Thankfully I could put my original flight to Germany/England on hold.

I am in regular contact with ACTS clinic and support my 2 Promises (care givers – see photo) as much as I can through the phone + praying for them. ACTS clinic is facing lots of changes in the near future and sees Home Care and my role in it as an important part. I am aware that I can’t travel on dirt roads anymore as I have done it in the past 8 years. I am praying and searching for the Lord’s guidance for my future.

I hope to see you all as soon as I am able to travel.

May the Lord bless you and keep you. With much love from South Africa.

Gundula

PRESS RELEASE

Reverend Alan Nelson has taken up the reins at New Life Church in Kingfield following the retirement of the previous pastor.

After starting his working life as a Police Officer, Alan attended Bible College and shortly after took on the role of Youth Pastor at Guildford Baptist Church from 1988 to 1992. Alan and his wife Karen have since served in a number of Baptist churches in West London, Norfolk and latterly Swanage before coming to Woking.

Alan has already started to lead by example. Last month, two weeks after his induction, saw him rolling up his sleeves to join with other members of South Woking Churches to help decorate the maisonettes at Priors Croft as a way of serving the local community.

Alan said, “I’m privileged to be leading this Church where there is already a lot going on in terms of serving the local community. I see my role as supporting the current work, developing vision and seeing how we can work with the many other Christian Churches and agencies in Woking.”

New Life Church currently numbers about 100 adults and 50 children and young people. Apart from Sunday services, they seek to serve the community in a variety of ways. For example, they run a popular toddler group, children’s and youth activities, and the Kingfield Post Office.

Alan said, “From my experience with the police and as a pastor, I know that peoples’ lives are often far from easy but I also know that people can come to know a loving and personal God who is there for us through thick and thin.”

Church member Guy Cosnahan said, “One of the things that we all liked about Alan when he came to meet us last Autumn as part of the selection process was that he was real and was just himself. He is also not afraid to be open about his own struggles.”

Alan and Karen have moved into Woking with their granddaughter, Faith, whom they look after. They are all looking forward to becoming more involved in church life over the coming months.

For details of church activities and services, please visit the church website: www.newlifechurch.org.uk or phone the church office on: 01483 725660.
